Chapter 11 – A new city, A new constitution, A new day!

Posted at 10:44 am under Language Arts

This is a very important chapter in the novel.   Let’s start out with vocabulary -
tribute, announce, mistreated, peered, padlock, economic, slumber, plotting, authority, dispute, provision, squabble, Napoleon, intervals, accomplish, stubborn, regret.

1.  Glenbard is the High School in-which the students have moved into to create their new city.  Lisa has referred to Glenbard as “her city.”  How are the other children reacting to Lisa’s ownership of the city?  What are Lisa’s reasons for declaring ownership over the city?  What disputes do you forsee in the future?

2.  “Freedom is more important than sharing.”  – Lisa Nelson says this to Jill.  What does she mean by this?  Is she correct?  Explain your thoughts and views.  *Post your comments to this post.

3.  Lisa creates a constitution for the citizens of Glenbard and makes everyone sign it.  They all remain free and with that freedom they are welcome to leave on their own accord but will not be able to return to the safety of the city.  Citizens also can be removed from the city if they do not obey the laws. What does the constitution state?   Is a constitution necessary?  Explain why or why not.

4.  “Earning is more than something, it is everything.”  This is a quote that we have heard a lot about in the last 2 chapters.  What does it mean?

I think Lisa means that freedom allows you to choose what you want to do without being forced, and with sharing, you might not want to share, but you have to. I think Lisa is correct and freedom is more important than sharing, because you are allowed to make your own choices and decisions. You do and earn things for yourself. If you are sharing with someone who is not helping, then they are not learning what it is like to have to do things for yourself.

Lisa means the being free is more then sharing. I think Lisa is wrong because some people might think that sharing is more then being free.

    Chapter 11 Question 2.
When Lisa says, ”Freedom is more important than sharing”, what she means by that is, you can share everything in the world but you still might not have your freedom. Lisa is giving everyone freedom and she is sharing the city also. I agree with this statement because I would rather have freedom than sharing. I would be able to get my thoughts and points of view in everything I do, also I would be able to leave the city without a big fight. If I didn’t have freedom I would feel like I was trapped in a box with no way out and that would make me miserable.

“Freedom is more important than sharing”, when Lisa says this, she means that it is better to be free then to have to share everything. I think that she is right. I think that she is right because a lot of people would rather be free, then to have to share.

“Freedom is more important than sharing” Lisa says, what she means by this is that with freedom you have the ability to make your own decisions. With sharing you are forced to share, and not having the ability to decide if you want to share or not. Of course she may not be correct, some people may think of this the opposite, maybe sharing is more important then freedom. No matter what she says about it, or how she says it, people have their own oppinions and may not agree with Lisa.

When Lisa says, “being free is more important than sharing.” she means you can share everything ,but that’s not really freedom ,and Lisa is sharing her city and giving the kids freedom too. I think freedom is about as important as sharing.

I think that what Lisa means by “freedom is more inportant than sharing” is that it is more important because you are not forced to share but instead can make the decision yourself and feel good about it. Lisa is correct. I think that she is correct because I agree with her.

I think Lisa is right when she said freedom is more important than sharing because freedom you can do whatever you want without people telling you wrong. With sharing you might have to share even though you don’t want to.

I think Lisa is right when she says “Freedom is more important then sharing” because having freedom you get to choose. With sharing you might be getting forced to share.

When Lisa says the quote ‘Freedom is more important then sharing,’ I believe that it means that when you have the opportunity to do something yourself to beats sharing. When you can earn something on your own and feel proud about it, it’s better then having to share everything that you own. I think that Lisa is correct when she says this, freedom is more important than sharing.
